Reiki for beginners: who can learn?

Everyone can. As explained above What is Reiki?, Reiki energy exists in every living human being since birth. It only needs to be activated for use at will. This is why every human being, male or female is called a “born healer” and has the ability to learn and use Reiki at any age and carry out healing. It is the simplest, easiest and quickest to learn healing technique. No special educational, intellectual or spiritual level is required to learn or practice Reiki. Basic academic qualification and common intellect are sufficient. In addition, the only requirement is the genuine desire and decision to learn.

Stages of Learning Reiki

There are four (or three) stages of Reiki learning (with some teachers), also known as levels or degrees. But all four levels don’t need to be learned. How much a person wants to know relies on his / her need and desire for personal development, but I suggest that for optimal use of the method one should take at least two first levels.

Training Time

It differs and how much is learned from teacher to teacher. Generally, each level requires a few hours, and for each level, the student is needed to join the class once. Training time for teacher level is much longer and can spread over a couple of days, depending on the student’s teacher and capacity.

Reiki First Degree (Level-1)

The student is instructed healing through a hands-on method and attunements are provided for this level. In order to perform our healing, a First Degree healer must essentially place hands on the recipient’s body. This is the first step towards using Reiki’s infinite and magnificent healing powers to treat yourself, others, and even plants and animals. This level needs common intellect and basic academic qualification.

Reiki Second Degree (Level-2)

It’s for those who have finished Level-1 training and now want distant healing capacity. Three Reiki symbols are taught to the student, which are also secret and sacred. The obligation to place hands on the recipient’s body finishes with this. The healer is allowed from any distance to send the energy and execute the healing. It is at this stage that it is also possible to treat psychological issues. This and other levels involve the capacity to memorize the symbols and to understand the methods better.

Reiki Master Degree (Level-3)

Some Master / Teachers treat this level as one and final, while some teach it in two components, Master Level (3A) and Teaching Level (3B) respectively.

Level-3A
It’s for those who have completed first two levels and now want to improve their own skill sets, take care of their personal development and become Reiki Masters but don’t want to become Reiki trainers. At this level, Reiki Master Symbol is taught. However, there seems to be some misunderstanding of the word “Reiki Master.” A Reiki Master only implies a person has been trained in Reiki up to the Master level. The word does not include possession or ego of any kind. It doesn’t imply the person has become Reiki’s Master. There is a great distinction between being a Master of Reiki and Reiki Master. The point to remember is that no one but God, Reiki’s Creator, is or can be Reiki’s master. Even otherwise titles are not always the real indicators of the capacity of anybody and can sometimes be illusive.

Level-3B, The Teacher Level

As the meaning goes, it’s a level of learning. It is not necessary for healing and is only necessary for those who want to become Reiki Teachers and who want to teach Reiki to others. At this level, the emphasis is on the ability to teach others and pass on attunements, not the ability to heal. In addition to several other methods, the student is trained to pass attunements for First Degree, Second Degree, Master Degree (3A) and Teacher’s Degree (3B). Those who do not want to become teachers of Reiki do not need to take this level. If somebody doesn’t want to become a teacher, however, and still intends to take that degree, it’s their decision.

If you don’t want to wait between different levels for some reason and want to know all levels in a shorter time, talk to your teacher about it. If he’s prepared to go along, in less than 48 hours you can become a Reiki Master.
