Reiki

What is Reiki?

History:

The history of Reiki begins with Dr. Mikao Usui who re-discovered it in Japan in the early 1900s. Dr. Mikao Usui (or Usui Sensei as he is called by his students in Japan) was born on August 15, 1865, in a village called Yago of Yamagata district of Japan. As a sensitive spiritualist, Usui Sensei had spent much time meditating on Mount Kurama. One day somewhere around 1914 (some books say 1922), Dr. Usui decided to travel to this holy mountain to fast and meditate in solitude for 21 days. At the end of this period, he was enlightened and suddenly felt the great Reiki energy at the top of his head. That is how he received this great gift of Reiki.

He first used Reiki on himself and then tried it on his family. Since it worked very well for various ailments, he decided to share it with the public at large and spread his knowledge. He taught Reiki to over 2000 persons and also trained 16 Masters. On March 9, 1926, while teaching in Fukuyama, he suffered a stroke and died. Dr. Usui is now buried in the Kyoto temple, with the story of his life written on the gravestone.

Reiki:

The word “Reiki” pronounced as “ray-key” is a combination of two Japanese words, “Rei” and “ki”. “Rei” means spiritual or universal and “ki” means the life force. The meanings thus become like “The Universal Life Force Energy”. Everyone is born with this energy, which can be channeled and used for healing at will. As the name indicates, it is universally present everywhere. The word Reiki is used in two meanings; one as the name of non-physical energy that gives life to all the living beings and second as the name of the healing system that uses this energy.

Reiki is a nonphysical and invisible universal energy that vibrates at a level higher than personal energy. Hereby personal energy I mean the energy which is purely individual and unique for everyone. One does not need to know the cause of illness. Reiki automatically redresses the cause, supplements, and speeds up the healing process and does not go against. It is fully positive energy and does not cause any type of harm to the recipient or the healer. In fact, it cannot be used to harm anyone. Reiki never flows for negative purposes. If you can correctly understand Reiki and its working, you will be able to use it for much more than just the physical healing.

Reiki Benefits:

Reiki has countless benefits and can be used anytime, anywhere. It has great curative potential and but one must understand it for practical applications with realistic expectations. The list given below suggests only some of the uses.

  • Mental and physical relaxation.
  • Stress reduction.
  • Better and comfortable sleep.
  • Improvement of the immune system.
  • Enhancement of self-confidence.
  • Reiki can virtually treat all the known diseases. It is known to have cured hypertension, cancer, heart diseases, and arthritis, etc. in addition to many other ailments.
  • A daily self-treatment can keep the person in maximum health and well being.
  • Reiki is an excellent natural anti-aging remedy.
  • Regular Reiki treatment can help in reducing weight.
  • Excellent to treat complicated diseases particularly where the cause of the disease is not known.
  • Since the energy flows through the healer while giving a Reiki treatment, the healer automatically receives healing.
  • Reiki can be effectively used to treat plants and animals also. It considerably improves their growth and health.

Benefits of Reiki for curing DEPRESSION

Depression is not a viral or bacterial disease. It is a state of mind and may have various causes but generally results from persistent negative thought pattern. It may also be the result of feelings of helplessness after deep disappointment. The cause may be specific to the individual.

One very common option chosen by the majority is the use of anti-depressant medicines whereas medicines alone would not be enough to cure depression. Dependency on medicines is in fact not a good option. The changes must come through modification of thought pattern, self-realization or development of courage to understand and face the realities of life. There are several relaxation techniques, Reiki being one of those. You should rise up to the realities, develop self-confidence and get rid of depression. Along this path, if you need the support of Reiki, get it because it would positively help you rebuilding your thought pattern and smoothing out your state of mind.

How to do Reiki (healing techniques)

Traditionally many Reiki practitioners give the whole body treatment covering all the hand positions. This method gives a very good overall healing effect and can be recommended if in doubt about the cause of the problem to be treated. Since the Reiki energy is spiritually guided it will, in the end, go where it is needed. By combining knowledge from different Eastern medical systems I have created a simple guide to which Reiki positions, in my opinion, that can be used to reach the best effect for different ailments under “Reiki hand positions

Hands-on treatment is the basic method of giving Reiki treatment. It means that Reiki treatment is given by placing hands on the body of the recipient. It is done with the recipient lying on a treatment couch/table or bed fully clothed. Every specific hand position has its own specific purpose, which you should know as a Reiki practitioner.

Reiki and Christianity:

Reiki is energy healing technique, not a religion or a belief system. It is not any type of magic or psychic way of healing either. Since it is different to most other healing systems and uses a non physical natural energy, some feel concerned. In fact Reiki has nothing to do with a religion except that Dr. Mikao Usui who rediscovered Reiki was a Japanese Buddhist, yet Reiki does not belong to Buddhism. A person who has ever introduced a healing system did belong to a particular belief system but that does not restrict the system itself to a particular faith or community. For example, homeopathy was introduced by a Christian but that does not restrict homeopathy to the Christian community.

During the conversation with one of the pastors of  church, I asked his opinion of Reiki. He casually observed that he had heard about a Reiki Master who had somehow abused his students, so he didn’t think much of the practice. I mentioned the tragic experiences in the Catholic Church with priests sexually abusing children which had not caused people to change their opinion of Christianity nor to stop going to church. Apparently he rethought his opinion. Later the same day, he asked me to speak to a man recently diagnosed with brain cancers about arranging some Reiki treatments.

Another friend had slipped and fallen on the ice after leaving a store. He came to a meeting at church and told the group about his experience. He was obviously in pain as he sat through the meeting. Afterwards, one of my students and I offered to give him Reiki which he accepted, though he didn’t think it would do much good. He had fallen a couple of times previously, landing on the base of his spine, and he was aware from experience of the pain and soreness that he could expect the next day. Later in the week he emailed me to say that he had felt just fine the next day and decided there was something to Reiki and wanted to explore it further. He attended a healing service at the church and participated in the laying on of hands after communion.

As the practice of Reiki has spread round the world and is rapidly entering public awareness, Christians have approached its use in a variety of ways. More and more Christians view Reiki as a practice that provides an opportunity to follow more closely the teachings and examples of Jesus healing the sick. Others are concerned that Reiki has an Eastern origin and are searching for more information and experiences before deciding how to respond. Thoughtful, committed Christians seek accurate information and pray for guidance as part of deciding whether to adopt the practice of Reiki into their lives.

Christian churches have a long tradition of adopting practices that enhance the spiritual life of its members based on examples of Jesus’ actions described in the Bible. Some churches use music and liturgy; others use silence and inspired prayer; some worship on Saturday (7th Day Adventists) and others on Sunday; some use dance and others sit throughout much of the service; some baptize by immersion and others by sprinkling water on the head; some honor saints and seek their help while others seek angelic experiences. In Christian worship, the cross is used as a focus of worship complemented by candles, music, prayer beads, bells, incense, and other ritual items. These many and varied practices indicate the range of methods that different Christian groups incorporate to follow the teachings of the Bible and to come closer to God. While they are different, they all fall within the definition of Christianity.

Christians can make decisions about how Reiki might play a role in their lives. It’s important to keep in mind that while many Christians have found Reiki to be a spiritually fulfilling practice, it is not necessarily for everyone. Thoughtful, committed Christians seek accurate information and pray for guidance as part of deciding whether to adopt the practice of Reiki into their lives.

Question: It is said that Reiki is present in every human being men or women by birth. If it is so, why everyone cannot reiki attune it by himself and what is meant by learning Reiki form Reiki master?

It is true that everyone man or women are though born with Reiki but at the same time, this is also true that everyone is not born with the ability to reiki attunement his or her self. This ability has to be acquired whether through own effort (like Dr Mikao Usui did) or through a Reiki master.

After Dr Usui acquired this ability by her self effort, he started teaching the others. As a Reiki Master, he not only transferred Reiki ability to many others but also trained sixteen of them as Reiki teachers with the ability to further pass Reiki on. Those teachers, in turn, trained others to not only First and Second Level Reiki healers but also up to Reiki teachers, which are also called Reiki Masters. Thus expanding and travelling from person to person, it reached me. my name is Irshad Azeemi and I am a Reiki Masters. as I told you When the ability is transferred by a Reiki Masters through a process called Reiki Attunement, techniques to use it are also taught. This whole process is called learning Reiki.

Some Europe and Asia people think that it is not necessary to learn Reiki from a Reiki Master. One can acquire this ability through self meditations etc.

Absolutely true! If Dr. Usui learned it himself, why can’t we? Sure we can but we have to find the method Dr. Usui used through his own effort of many years struggling. Dr. Usui taught many others but did not reveal the method he used. So we have to do it our self. If someone can do it, it would be a great effort in Reiki Attunement.

There is no limit to objections; peoples can object anything but the fact is that can we do everything our self? Take a small example of milk. Can everyone make his own milk or make his own shoes rather than buying from the market? If someone can, he may do so. There is obviously no restriction on it but would it not be easier to buy ready-made things?

On the same analogy, now that nearly every country in Europe and Asia have Reiki teachers, it can be learned very easily. One does not need to put as much effort struggling as Dr Usui did. Those interested in learning can just find a Reiki teacher who can do Reiki Attunement, go and learn. It has become as simple as that.

I received this ability through Dr Usui, who made it so easy for us to teach and learn Reiki.
